And remember MosesMusa prayed for water for his people; We said: "Strike the rock with thy staff." Then gushed forth therefrom twelve springs. Each group knew its own place for water. So eat and drink of the sustenance provided by Allah, and do no evil nor mischief on the (face of the) earth.
Then (MosesMusa) threw his rod, and behold! it was a serpent, plain (for all to see)!
We put it into MosesMusa's mind by inspiration: "Throw (now) thy rod": and behold! it swallows up straight away all the falsehoods which they fake!
We divided them into twelve tribes or nations. We directed MosesMusa by inspiration, when his (thirsty) people asked him for water: "Strike the rock with thy staff": out of it there gushed forth twelve springs: Each group knew its own place for water. We gave them the shade of clouds, and sent down to them manna and quails, (saying): "Eat of the good things We have provided for you": (but they rebelled); to Us they did no harm, but they harmed their own souls.
He said, "It is my rod: on it I lean; with it I beat down fodder for my flocks; and in it I find other uses."
He said, "Nay, throw ye first!" Then behold their ropes and their rods-so it seemed to him on account of their magic - began to be in lively motion!
So (MosesMusa) threw his rod, and behold, it was a serpent, plain (for all to see)!
So they threw their ropes and their rods, and said: "By the might of PharaohFiraun, it is we who will certainly win!"
Then MosesMusa threw his rod, when, behold, it straightway swallows up all the falsehoods which they fake!
Then We told MosesMusa by inspiration: "Strike the sea with thy rod." So it divided, and each separate part became like the huge, firm mass of a mountain.
"Now do thou throw thy rod!" But when he saw it moving (of its own accord) as if it had been a snake, he turned back in retreat, and retraced not his steps: "O MosesMusa!" (it was said), "Fear not: truly, in My presence, those called as messengers have no fear,"-
